Procedure, initiation and payment

You do not need a referral from a doctor to start psychotherapy or to get information. In an initial consultation, you will have time to describe your situation and you will receive all the necessary information about possible treatment paths. This is usually followed by one or two further and so-called probationary sessions, in which we find out together what therapeutic measures can be taken and whether we would like to carry out the therapy together. As a non-medical practitioner for psychotherapy, the treatment costs for my services are unfortunately not covered by the statutory health insurances (GKV). Despite official permission from the health authorities to "professionally practice medicine, limited to the field of psychotherapy", most GKVs refer patients to the psychological psychotherapists they have licensed. There, however, patients often have to put up with very long waiting times (up to one year).

Reimbursement by health insurance

In principle, I bill my services privately, even if my clients later want to submit the bills to the tax office or to a private health insurance company. Statutory health insurance companies do not reimburse my services.

You may have already taken out private supplementary health insurance (PZV) for people with statutory health insurance. There are various private health insurances that offer supplementary tariffs for alternative practitioner treatment, such as Barmenia or Gothaer. Make sure that this also refers to alternative practitioner treatment in the field of psychotherapy, which are listed in the fee schedule for alternative practitioners under positions 19.1 to 19.8.

This is how my clients pay

- Legally insured, but self-paying- fully insured with a private health insurance (PKV)

- legally insured and with a private supplementary health insurance (PZV).

The corresponding costs per therapy/coaching hour will be settled via card payment before each session. Please refrain from cash payments.

Preparation for the initial interview

In preparation for the first consultation, I would like to ask you to fill in the questionnaire deposited at Doctolib and either bring it with you to the first therapy session or send it in advance by email to my practice address.
If you do not have access to Doctolib, please contact me directly so that I can send you the form.

The answers will help in the joint development of your desired therapy goal.

Duty of confidentiality

Your data and the contents of our conversations are subject to the duty of confidentiality which is binding for me.

Is digital therapy or coaching also available?

Yes, both integrative psychotherapy and counselling coaching sessions can be conducted by telephone or digitally as a video session. I use the RED connect tool for this, which has all the security standards that digital counselling or therapy requires.

Duration of a therapy session

Integrative psychotherapy takes place alongside everyday life in continuous individual sessions, usually once a week. The sessions last about 55 minutes.

Number of sessions

Every psychotherapy is very individual, so it is difficult to predict how many sessions will be necessary. Depending on the need, you can expect between 1-10 sessions for counseling sessions, between 10-25 sessions for short-term therapy. Some private health insurances limit the number of psychotherapeutic sessions. Please ask your private health insurance for the respective conditions for psychotherapy.

Cancellation of sessions

Please note: A binding appointment booked with me must be cancelled by telephone or through the booking tool at least 48 working day hours in advance if you are unable to attend. The legal basis for this is § 615 BGB (German Civil Code), according to which you have to pay for a booked service even if you do not use it after all.

Postponements in less than 48 hours before the appointment is due are tolerated, but a subsequent cancellation, which essentially is also in breach of the terms and conditions, will not be accepted and therefore charged in full.

I ask for your understanding that as a freelancer I unfortunately cannot accept all spontaneous cancellations of appointments that may occur due to illness, traffic jams or urgent family matters. There is always the possibility of doing a digital session, so I take the liberty of charging a cancellation fee for very last-minute cancellations. Each client is informed of this verbally at the beginning of our work as well as through the Doctolib booking tool.

Tax recognition for self-payers

You can claim the receipts of your private medical treatment for tax purposes. Self-payers can claim the 80 euros per weekly session incurred from the tax office as special expenses for medical services (medical expenses) in the annual income tax return ("Extraordinary burdens", line 67 of the tax return).

According to a decision of the Münster Fiscal Court (Ref: 3 K 2845/02 E), psychotherapeutic treatment costs are to be recognised by the tax office as extraordinary expenses even if they are invoiced by private therapists. For the tax deductibility of the costs, it is now decisive for some tax offices that it is a targeted, medically necessary treatment for the purpose of healing or alleviating an acute illness and that this necessity - beyond the diagnosis of the private therapist or non-medical practitioner - is proven.

The medical necessity of psychotherapy, which must be proven to some tax offices, can be done by the family doctor or, according to the Income Tax Implementation Ordinance (§ 64 EStDV), must be determined by the public health officer in an expert opinion or by the medical service of the health insurance by means of a medical certificate.

The ordinance further states: "The competent health authorities shall, at the request of the taxpayer, issue the health certificates, expert opinions or attestations required for tax purposes."

So if you are considering submitting our invoices in your income tax return for the following year, you should first have your illness or the need for treatment certified as described above. I would be happy to advise you on this.
